Black Is The New Black
“Absolute: Closure” is my latest oil painting. It’s a moody brute with all the nostalgia and wanton reminiscence one could ask for. This piece was particularly a healthy challenge, as its dark tones made for a limited color palette. Black on black on dark brown meant that I had to find the subtle nuances between shades of darkness. I have to say, this was a welcomed exploration. Read on for more about this piece.
A satiny black ribbon sits with a section of a hand-written letter atop a deep charcoal envelope. Gracing the aged paper remnant is the familiar remark, “P.S.”.
Obviously, this is a postscript or an illation towards an additional statement.
What does the moody black tone suggest? Is the afterthought one of mysterious endings? Or maybe the content of the letter is indignant? Or perhaps the closure is realizing that there’s no closure at all? Is that the Absolute concept in this piece? What do YOU think it means?
As with the previous post, I’m showing you the backside of this piece. Again, the 12 digit serial code is stamped into the wood along with the title, signature, date, and other coded numbers. Each stamped serial number is documented in a codex and as a rubbing in my private records.
