Awarded Grant For Interactive Light & Sound Sculpture At The Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum Of Art

by Daric Gill

Today is a good day! I am very pleased to announce that I’ve received a Support for Professional Artists: Individuals grant by the Greater Columbus Arts Council in the amount of $1750! This grant will go towards building an interactive light and sound sculpture slated for exhibition later this year. The sculpture will proudly be on display in the annual Greater Columbus exhibition at the Pizzuti Collection of the  Columbus Museum of Art. The exhibition will feature works made by myself and other recent recipients of the prestigious Visual Arts Fellowship.

My inclusion in this exhibition comes as an invitation after receiving an artist in residency to Dresden, Germany in 2019. I’m so excited to start working on it using this very gracious funding. Keep an eye out for updates as the work on this interactive piece progresses!

I am grateful for your support. Thank you!

It is my great pleasure to announce that the Ohio Arts Council has chosen me as a FY 2019 recipient of the Individual Excellence Award in the field of 2-D visual art. I am so thankful for the support and I am exceptionally proud to be among those of whom have been given this honor.

Aimed at highlighting individual artistic achievement, Individual Excellence Awards recognize the exceptional merit of an Ohio artist’s past body of work and celebrate the creativity and imagination that exemplify the highest level of achievement in a particular artistic discipline.

These awards support artists’ growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond. Individual Excellence Awards are $5,000.

I am sincerely grateful for the numerous people who work tirelessly to put our creative future first. Their continued support makes it possible to pursue such a fulfilling career. Their efforts are not lost on me and I would like to personally thank those involved. You can find the official press release here.

How the selections were made: A panel of nationally recognized artists and arts professionals meet to evaluate and score applications in each Individual Excellence Awards discipline. At the panel meeting, panelists review materials from each artist and discuss how well each application satisfies the program’s evaluation criteria. Preliminary scoring rounds narrow the pool of applications. In later rounds, a more in-depth discussion takes place regarding the strongest remaining applications. After all the work has been reviewed, panelists make funding recommendations. The OAC Board reviews the recommendations and makes final funding decisions at a later date.

To those of whom made this possible– truly, thank you!

Awarded Resource Grant For Interactive Winged Light Sculpture

Awarded Resource Grant For Winged Interactive Light Sculpture

by Daric Gill

I am very happy to announce that I’ve received an Artist Resource Grant by the Greater Columbus Arts Council for 2019. This grant will go towards my most ambitious project to date, an interactive light sculpture made from robotics and a 17 foot wide reclaimed airplane wing. The wing will proudly be on display in the annual Greater Columbus exhibition June 14 to Sept. 29, 2019 at the Columbus Museum of Art. The exhibition will feature works made by myself and other recent recipients of the prestigious Visual Arts Fellowship.

While my project isn’t exactly top-secret, I am trying to keep some of the surprises hush-hush… for now. Let’s just say it involves you, NASA, and some beautiful lights. Keep an eye out for updates as the work on this interactive piece progresses!

I am grateful for your support. Thank you!

HUGE News! 2019 Artist Exchange Residency In Dresden, Germany!

Awarded A Dresden, Germany Artist Exchange Residency!

by Daric Gill

This year has been full of amazing adventures and it looks like 2019 will only get better! I’m ecstatic to announce that I’ve been awarded an artist exchange residency in Dresden, Germany for 2019! Each year the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen (Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony) – offers two Columbus artists the opportunity to undertake a residency in Dresden, Germany, lasting two to three months between March – November. Travel expenses, a small stipend, a living space, and work studio will also be provided as part of the experience.

I’m honestly gobsmacked and completely honored by such a generous residency. This is a prestigious opportunity that only comes available once an artist wins the Visual Arts Fellowship, a merit-based award of funding and exhibition . Last month, I was selected as one of the 2018 fellowship recipients by Greater Columbus Arts Council in conjunction with the Columbus Museum of Art. Past and present fellows can compete with other former winners  for this residency. As you can imagine, the pool of artists are quite amazing and I’m tremendously flattered that I was picked out of such a quality roster of talented individuals.

You can expect plenty of posts from Germany during my time there, as I plan to chronicle my work and experiences there.

A special thanks to:
