Ohio Arts Council Celebrates Artists Selected In Governor’s Office Loan Program

Artwork Loan Program Visitation

by Daric Gill

OAC-Gov-officesLast summer I announced that two of my paintings had been selected as part of Ohio Arts Council loan program at the 32 story Verne Riffe Center for Government & The Arts. As part of the 2015-2017 Ohio Governor’s Office and Residence Loan Program, all selected artwork has been carefully chosen by the Ohio Arts Council and will be on extended loan for 2 years at either the Governor’s Office or his residence. Recently, I was invited to an afternoon celebration thrown for the artists chosen for this award. After the swanky gathering at the Governor’s Mansion (full of represented art as well), artist were invited to tour the art on loan at the Riffe Center. My pieces are located in a sitting area within the offices.

NEW Painting! The Layers of “Absolute: Allure”

The Layers of Absolute:Allure

Absolute: Allure
Absolute: Allure, Oil on reclaimed birds eye maple. 7 11/16″ x 8 3/4″. 6.4.15.

Today I finished documenting the latest painting in my Absolute series. Layers of translucent crimson were painted on birdseye maple. This made a simple yet dynamic backdrop from which to build the rest of the piece.

It portrays a plump cherry dangling above a vertical white stripe. A series of overlapping translucent shapes help frame, focus, and add to an already rich collection of symbols.

New! “Absolute: Time”

It’s About Time

Ladies & Gentlemen: I give you, “Absolute: Time”.

The aim of this piece is to explore how time can be mysterious by nature. The background tones gradient from dark at the bottom to lighter in the center of the painting. The thread fades into nothingness as it leads to nowhere. The pendulum that is created sits atop a weathered linear piece of paper, a timeline for the sway of the cherry weight. The cherry is an enticing mass, juicy and red.
